Junot Diaz came to our university tonight for a reading. He said something interesting about reading–that we get moments when we feel like we’re a voyeur and others when we feel like the insider; that the author makes us feel like we’ve overheard somethings and like we’ve had other things said directly to us. He said the author should be aware of that, and in that sense, be aware of audience.
I liked that.
